Mississippi Civil Rights Education

In 2006, the Winter Institute spearheaded passage of Miss. Senate Bill 2718. The only bill of its kind in the U.S., this legislation created the Mississippi Civil Rights Education Commission, of which the Winter Institute is a permanent member. The commission is charged with implementing civil rights and human rights education as part of the state’s K-12 curriculum.
