New Orleans

The Welcome Table New Orleans begins a partnership between the City of New Orleans and the William Winter Institute for Racial Reconciliation. It convenes community stakeholders from throughout the city to meet in four areas: Algiers, St. Roch/7th Ward, Central City, and Little Woods, New Orleans East. Welcome Table groups will participate in community meetings and retreats that provide reflective space for them to engage in open, honest, and respectful dialogue. A three-year process will work to break down racial isolation that creates disparities leading to concentrations of violence in these communities. The Welcome Table New Orleans serves as one tool in the City’s comprehensive strategy to reduce murder among youth in neighborhoods with the highest incidence of violent crime. By promoting civic engagement to support violence reduction, the Welcome Table also seeks to leverage broader community resources in the generation of ideas and effective action to remove barriers to opportunity for the most at-risk youth.
