University of Mississippi as a Community

The University of Mississippi community continues to work on creating equitable learning, working, and living spaces. To fulfill that vision, conversations between faculty, staff, and students have been taking place to examine the existing inequities on the campus and within the campus infrastructure. Conversations with key players in academics and student affairs and with the administration are ongoing and focus on the needs of the campus community. Utilizing the Winter Institute Guideposts for effective and productive interactions, the campus is engaging in conversations regarding university symbols, the relationship between the university and its history with racism, and how to dismantle institutionalized racism in academics and student affairs. Various campus members are seeking training on anti-oppression and equity work. The community as a whole seems willing to address inequity and also is in the process of developing and implementing programs and initiatives that ensure equity for everyone.
